NITIC Launches Labor Market Bytes: A New Data Resource for IT Educators
The National IT Innovation Center (NITIC) is excited to announce the launch of Labor Market Bytes, a new data briefing designed to equip IT faculty and workforce stakeholders with timely insights into employment trends, emerging skills, and industry projections.
This initiative was developed in direct response to feedback from our 2025 ITIN Member Yearly Survey, where over 75% of respondents expressed strong interest in receiving national-level labor market data tools, dashboards, and reports. Educators emphasized the importance of labor market data for advising students, aligning curriculum with industry needs, and supporting program development and grant applications.
The September 2025 edition of Labor Market Bytes focuses on the growing intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cybersecurity in entry-level IT roles. Key findings include:
- A 112% year-over-year increase in entry-level job postings requiring AI-related skills from 2024 to 2025.
- Over 550,000 IT professional networking profiles now list AI competencies, with 53% of those individuals having 0–3 years of experience.
- AI is increasingly embedded in cybersecurity job descriptions, with postings mentioning AI growing by 62% from 2023 to 2025.
These insights are powered by data from Lightcast and informed by employer discussions at the recent BILT Trends meeting held on August 19. You can find the full meeting minutes from that meeting here: BILT-meeting-minutes-8-19-25.pdf. The data also supports our Summer 2025 Trends, an outcome document from our two BILT meetings over the summer. You can find the full list of trends here: Summer 2025 Trends
We’re proud to offer this resource as part of our commitment to supporting IT educators and institutions. Future editions will continue to explore high-demand skills and workforce shifts across the tech landscape.
