NITIC’S AI-Powered Teaching Workshop Prepares Instructors for Tomorrow
This past month, NITIC hosted a two-part workshop titled “AI Powered Teaching: Ignite Innovation and Engagement in Your Classroom & Office,” designed to help educators effectively integrate AI into their teaching practices. The workshops were led by Nancy Miller, a professor at Forsyth Technical Community College specializing in Network and Security Fundamentals, virtualization, and AI integration in education.
Part one of the series focused on practical classroom tools, while part two explored strategies for engaging students through AI-driven resources. “Incorporating AI into the classroom isn’t just about innovation—it’s about reclaiming time. By automating administrative tasks, generating course materials, and providing personalized student support, AI can save educators up to 10+ hours per week. That’s time we can reinvest into engaging instruction, meaningful mentorship, and fostering student success,” said Nancy Miller, Professor & AI Enthusiast.
The workshops attracted over 70 faculty members from the IT Innovation Network (ITIN). Attendees praised the sessions for providing actionable insights. One program director and ITIN member, Andrea Schauer shared, “I had been hesitating to subscribe to a paid version of AI. Nancy changed my thinking of that by explaining how AI can be used as a ‘Teaching Assistant’, improving her efficiency at a time when she is not able to fund a teaching assistant. I found the idea to create a tutor bot for students invaluable and I’ve already begun outlining how I will implement an AI tutor into my classes.”
NITIC extends its gratitude to Nancy Miller and all participating ITIN members for contributing to this enriching learning experience. We look forward to seeing how these ideas are applied to enhance teaching and learning in IT programs.
